About Ballarat Disc Golf
Ballarat Disc Golf was created in 2019, after the City of Ballarat installed a disc golf course in Victoria Park. There was a large amount of interest in the community for structured events so Ballarat Ultimate Inc saw the opportunity to branch out into disc golf to help it grow in Ballarat.
The Ballarat disc golf community has widely grown since inception with high membership numbers, sell-out tournaments and local players performing strongly in regional tournaments.
This growth in the community led the club to reach out to Mt Xavier Golf Club where an agreement was formed for the club’s volunteers to create Ballarat’s second 18 hole disc golf course.
Ballarat Disc Golf now runs many league competitions and tournaments throughout the calendar year, while also supporting social rounds. For more information go to our events page.

About Disc Golf
Disc golf is much like traditional golf but instead of the use of a ball and clubs, players use a flying disc (frisbee). The object of the game is to throw the frisbee into the basket in the fewest number of throws.
Any flying disc can be used to play disc golf however regular disc golfers may prefer the use of specialty discs that vary from putters to mid-range and drivers.
Who Can Play?
Disc golf can be played from school age to old age and includes specially - abled and disabled participation. Disc golf is an enjoyable and easy to learn sport where players can play at their own pace to their capabilities.
Where do I Play?
Ballarat is one of the only regional towns in Australia to boast two 18 hole disc golf courses and is steadily becoming a disc golf destination. The first course is at Victoria Park in central Ballarat and the other in Mt Xavier Golf Club in Ballarat East.
The Vic Park course is right in the middle of Ballarat Centre featuring a mix of open long holes, wooded technical holes and two risky water holes. This course includes both a beginner and advanced course to suit all ranges of players and is open to the public.
The Mt Xavier Disc Golf course is an amazing club achievement, and can be played by paying green fees at the club rooms or purchasing a year long membership. More on this course below.
Other courses nearby include Inverleigh Disc Golf Course just outside of Geelong.
Where can I get Discs?
Flying discs can be loaned from the Ballarat Library for free. Discs can also be purchased from local games store GUF who have a large collection of discs for all speeds and throws, with new designs available all the time.
Mt Xavier Disc Golf Course
The installation of the new disc golf course at Mount Xavier has come with amazing feedback from not only local and non-local players, but from Mount Xavier Golf Club as well.
This wonderful collaboration has resulted in a beautiful 18 hole course that winds it’s way through the existing golf course landscape. This course will provide you challenges that you will struggle to find anywhere else in the state. With tight wooded gaps, broad open golf fairways, and elevation changes on pretty much every hole, this course is one of a kind.
In 2023 Ballarat Disc Sports had meetings with Mt Xavier Golf Club to determine a partnership that gave the facility another user group to assist with grant applications for a redevelopment. In return the partnership allowed the club space to develop a new course, access to storage and a function room.
What began as a 9 hole layout with only baskets has already grown to an 18 hole course. The course continues to grow and develop with the help of our amazing volunteers and we look forward to the future of the course.
If you would like to play the Mt Xavier Disc Golf course head to the club rooms before your round to pay the $10 green fee, or purchase our yearly Mt Xavier membership access.
